Southern Automated Logistics & Technology (SALT), an organization based in Savannah, partners with industry and academia to bring technology ideas to the market. SALT started an apprenticeship program that offers college computer science and IT students access to mentors and the ability to learn about and solve real-world software development problems for clients. SALT partners with Georgia Southern University’s Office of Career and Professional Development (OCPD) to identify potential program candidates. Junior computer science major Gracie Smith serves as SALT apprentice team lead and said the experience is a pivotal moment for her. SALT apprentice and recent Georgia Southern graduate Dimitry Bakalov said the mentorship and team aspect of SALT gives him a competitive edge in the job search. SALT is working to find a location for Georgia Southern students in Savannah and more companies to work with.
